Angola, Guinea reaches the quarterfinals of the FIBA AfroBasket 2021
Angola and Guinea have taken two of the last four places in the quarter-finals of AfroBasket 2021 after winning the qualifying round today.
In the first game, Angola defeated Egypt 70-62.
Angola was led by Carlos Morais and Gerson Concalves, who scored 16 and 13 points respectively.
Egypt fought out of the three, shooting 5-out-21 from the deep.
They also left several points on the free-throw line and shot 9 of 17.
Angola will now face a strong Senegalese team in the quarter-finals on September 1st, who overtook their opponents by 100 points in the group game.
In the last game of the day, Guinea shocked hosts Rwanda with 72:68.
Rwanda was even 11 ahead, but Guinea fought back and beat Rwanda in the fourth quarter with 28:14.
Guinea scored with Cedric Mansare (16 points), Cheick Sekou Conde (15 points), Mohamed Queta (13 points) and Abdoulaye Sy (12 points).
Kenny Gasana led Rwanda with 28 points.
Guinea will now face Ivory Coast in the quarter-finals on September 1st.
This is the strongest advance Guinea has made on an AfroBasket and the most wins of all time (2) on an AfroBasket.
At the start of the tournament, Guinea were the worst-placed team in the field (No. 118 and No. 21 in Africa), but they continue to brave all odds.
