Eye injuries may prevent the Los Angeles Lakers big man Anthony Davis from participating in the first game of the Los Angeles Clippers.

Davis was accidentally poked by Michael Carter Williams of the Orlando Magic in a melee on Saturday.

The first-year Lakers did not practice on Tuesday, but were masked during team practice, with shadow glasses on their faces.

Lakers coach Frank Vogel gave Davis an update via video conference call.

“He works every day. Although he is still facing discomfort, there are concerns that he might not play on Thursday. But we hope he can do it and we will see how it turns out. He will be evaluated every day.”

During that call, Vogel described Davis as feeling “discomfort” multiple times.

When asked to elaborate, Vogel said: “I don’t know if I will be allowed to really understand the details, except they tell me to report. So this is what I can give you.”

Davis scored 9 points and grabbed 10 rebounds, then withdrew from Saturday’s game. Carter-Willimas grabbed Davis’ face while swinging the ball and injured his eyes.

According to league rules, the Lakers will have to update Davis’ identity on Wednesday.

In a recent memo issued by the league, teams are required to report each player’s participation status-detailing injuries, illnesses or rest days-and submit the report by 5 pm. According to Marc Spears of “The Undefeated,” Eastern Time the day before the game.

Therefore, Vogel’s daily assessment of Davis is invalid.

Instead, the team must choose to designate their players as available, possible, suspicious, suspicious or absent.

In his first season with the Lakers, Anthony Davis ranked eighth in the entire season, averaging 26.7 points, 9.4 rebounds, 3.1 assists and 2.4 blocks per game before the truce in March.
