The Detroit Pistons announced the agreement with the young center Justin Patton. Patton, the 16th election of the 2017 NBA draft, was part of the deal that sent Jimmy Butler to the Minnesota Timberwolves.

This was the first step of the team under the new general manager Troy Weaver. The terms of the agreement were not disclosed in accordance with the team guidelines.

In nine NBA career games, Patton scored an average of 1.8 points and 1.2 rebounds with Minnesota, Philadelphia and Oklahoma City.
