This season will be one of the most successful in the history of European basketball, but unfortunately, due to COVID-19, the European League has been cancelled.
On Monday, the Alliance Executive Committee announced its decision in a statement to the media.
The board of directors said: “The executive committee has made every possible choice and has decided to cancel 2019-20 Turkish Airlines EuroLeague.”
“There is no doubt that this is the most difficult decision in our 20-year history,” said Jordi Bertomeu, President and CEO of Euroleague Basketball.
Another content of the news is that the annual Europa League basketball Adidas next generation championship and the Europa League Academy are also canceled this year.
The European League is considered to be the best basketball league outside the NBA. It has helped them attract top talent to join the league and stay away from other competitors.
The 2020-21 Euroleague and EuroCup seasons will begin on October 1 and September 30, respectively.
The 18 teams that played in the Europa League this season will play next season.
The European Union stated that no team will be declared as the winner of the 2019-20 season.
