Dwight Howard mourns the sudden death of his son’s mother
Dwight Howard mourns the death of Melissa Rios, the mother of his six-year-old son David.
Rios died of a seizure at her California home late last month.
Howard shared heartbreaking news with reporters on Friday.
Howard said on the conference call: “Some things have happened in my personal life, and these things are hard to deal with.”
“My son’s mother, she died a month and a half ago. For me, it is almost a very difficult thing to understand how to talk to a six-year-old son.”
David has always lived in Howard’s home in Georgia.
The big Laker is planning to invite Rios to his house to accompany his son.
“Every moment is important,” Howard said. “I am grateful for every situation you encounter, and very grateful for life. I think we also think it is insignificant and only spend time with people like this.
“After going through all these situations, you know that I confirm again that I mean to stay at this moment. Always be grateful. Always be grateful for everything you have and everything that happened.”
Howard added that the NBA shutdown is “bittersweet.”
He said: “Bitter music is mixed because I really want to play basketball, but my son needs me more than anything now.”
