Matt Barnes speaks about the Donald Sterling scandal
Matt Barnes shared his thoughts on the scandal with former Los Angeles Clippers owner Donald Sterling in 2014.
Sterling made racist statements that were eventually released to the press. As a result, he was forced to sell the team and was also excluded from the NBA for life.
“It was just a crazy situation. It was unprecedented. It was arguably the biggest scandal in basketball history. And to do that at the start of the playoffs, when we’re up against a tough, young Warrior team, a team that became one of the greatest dynasties of all time after this season was just tough.
Because at the time of the playoffs we only focus on our opponents. And day after day the preparation and execution as well as the adjustments that we have to make. And then it was incredible to throw this on our plate almost 36 hours before a game, ”Barnes said in an interview with James Herbert from CBS Sports.
Barnes is one of the players in Quibi’s new documentary “Blackballed”, which examines the race in America through the lens of the Sterling saga.
Chris Paul, Doc Rivers, DeAndre Jordan and JJ Redick can also be seen in the documentary.
