The NBA has informed the coaching association that seniors alone cannot prevent coaches from entering Orlando’s “bubble”.
A few weeks ago, Commissioner Adam Silver stated that certain coaches, especially older coaches, may not be allowed to sit on the bench during the game.
Many coaches, including New Orleans Pelicans coach Alvin Gentry (65) and Houston Rockets coach Mike D’Antoni, are outraged by this possibility.
“I think it’s unfair if they do this. When there is nothing saying that I can catch it more easily than anyone else, it is strictly based on age.” Gentry said at the time.
Now, the league says that age alone does not save coaches from joining the bubble.
Rick Carlisle, coach of the Dallas Mavericks and chairman of the NBA Coaches Association, said: “Everyone has gone through the selection process, but the league has assured us that no one will be warned of age.”
Statistics from CDC This shows that people over 65 years old have a much higher mortality rate when infected with coronavirus.
So far, it is not known whether any coach can exempt this bubble, but the NBA reserves the right to make decisions on this matter.
