Oscar Robertson says Russell Westbrook should have become an MVP last year
Russell Westbrook has had unreal numbers for the past four seasons, triple double the average in several years.
Last season was no exception for the seasoned superstar, who helped the Wizards move into the playoffs for the first time since 2017.
His shooting efficiency has declined over the past two seasons, but his effectiveness in several facets of the game is sometimes staggering.
The UCLA product won the MVP award in 2016/17 when it scored a full triple-double average campaign for the first time; he scored 31.6 points, 10.7 rebounds and 10.4 assists.
He did the same for the last four of five seasons, becoming the all-time leader in the triple-double when he surpassed NBA legend Oscar Robertson.
Robertson appeared in the Knuckleheads Podcast, claiming that Russ should have won the MVP award the previous season.
“He’s got triple doubles this year and nobody even notices … I think that’s totally unfair. I think he should have won [MVP] again, ”said Robertson.
The MVP award of the year went to Denver Nuggets star center Nikola Jokic, who led the team to the third best in the west. Westbrook averaged 22.2 points, 11.7 assists and 11.5 rebounds at the Wizards last season.
Washington finally secured eighth place in the east via the play-in tournament, but lost to the Philadelphia 76ers in the first round.
