NBA Hall of Fame guard Oscar Robertson believes that the newly appointed Los Angeles Lakers star Russell Westbrook should be the MVP of last season.
“He got a triple double this year No one even noticed,” Robertson said Knuckleheads podcast With Darius Miles and Quentin Richardson.
“I think it’s totally unfair. I think he should win [MVP] again. “
In the 2016-17 season, Westbrook became the first player after Robertson to average a triple-double with 31.6 points, 10.7 rebounds and 10.4 assists and won the MVP award.
In the Wizards last season, Westbrook averaged a career high in rebounds (11.5) and assists (11.7).
Robertson hinted that Westbrook’s absurd performance was taken for granted.
But then again, Westbrook has been working hard to improve his true shooting percentage. Combine this with his high usage rate, and you have the secret of front-end critics.
Nevertheless, it is naive to think that Westbrook will harm the Lakers, especially considering that he will fight alongside 4x MVP LeBron James.
