The Houston Rockets were the latest team to hire a new coach after breaking up with Mike D’Antoni. After a long evaluation process, the Rockets finally hired Dallas’ assistant coach Stephen Silas.

Silas didn’t expect to get the job, as his father and former NBA head coach Paul Silas revealed in an interview with beatwriter Houston Chronicle Jonathan figs.

(about USA Today Sports):

“He said he wasn’t going to get this job. I told him it was going to happen. I knew it was going to happen for him. They wanted to get him. He said,” I don’t think it will happen, Dad. “I said,“ It is. ”And it did. I’m just happy.

“I thought it was going to happen because I had him as a coach and he did a great job. I just knew it was going to happen. He did a great job, I tell you. He really did. And he’s going to do a great job now. “

Silas got his first NBA job as the Charlotte Scout in 1999 when his father was the head coach. At the age of 27 he became an assistant coach in Charlotte and had 20 years experience as an NBA assistant coach.

It will be his first job as head coach.
