White ended up with 33 points, nine assists and six rebounds.
The Celtics followed at 110-109, with time running in double overtime when John Havlicek gave the go-ahead. Time seemed to be running out and the fans stormed the square. However, a second was put on the clock again.
The Suns gave up a technical free throw to advance the ball and followed two. After the time, Gar Heard hit a competitive jump shot to tie the game and force a third extra time. In the end, he played 61 minutes in the game.
In the third extension, Boston took a lead of 128-122. Phoenix reduced the lead to 128-126 but never got the ball back before time ran out.
Boston won game 6 87-80 on the way to the NBA final.
