That day a year ago the Oklahoma City Thunder traded Russell Westbrook for Chris Paul. Both teams haven’t lost a beat and will be in the playoffs this year after trading.
Westbrook was the longest serving player for OKC after Nick Collison retired. Westbrook was with the team that designed him for 11 seasons. During his time at OKC, he averaged 23.0 points, 8.4 assists and 7.0 rebounds. He had a triple double for three seasons in a row and won an MVP before heading to the Houston Rockets.
Sam Presti said this via Westbrook after trading:
“Russell Westbrook is the most important player in the short history of the Oklahoma City Thunder. He left incredible traces in this team, in this city, and in this state. None of us could have predicted the player he became, and we are all deeply proud of what he has contributed to the success of the franchise and our community. Russell and his wife Nine, their three children, brother and parents will always be part of the Thunder family. We only wish you luck and success for the future. “
Westbrook did it much for the OKC Thunder and was their hope after Kevin Durant left. The team moved on and was successful with Chris Paul. The Thunder have lots of draft picks after moving their two superstars to Paul George and Westbrook. They hope they are lucky enough to find another superstar in the design who will be an MVP player.
